Abstract: This article presents the results of a study on the ritual practices of the red Dao and Long-robed Dao communities in Tuyen Quang province in a contemporary context, from the perspective of the cultural subjects themselves. Based on ethnographic fieldwork methods (participatory observation and in-depth interviews), the research shows that rituals are still regularly maintained in daily life as well as on important community occasions and throughout the human life cycle. In the current context, communities tend to become more aware of preserving and practicing rituals, at the same time proactively adjusting the form and scale of their organization. Through the voices of those directly involved, the article clarifies how the Dao community perceives, interprets and reshapes ritual practices, thereby highlighting the role of community institutions in regulating and maintaining traditional cultural values.
