Folk knowledge of the Mong people regarding climate change adaptation in the Northern mountainous region

English review | Dr. Lo Giang Pao* ; MA. Nguyen Duy Dung** - 23:31, 06/08/2026
Abstract: This research analyzes the role of the Mong people’s folk knowledge as an endogenous resource for climate change adaptation in the Northern mountainous region. The article views this indigenous knowledge not merely as traditional experience, but as a system of practical knowledge accumulated over generations, deeply rooted in natural conditions and community livelihoods. Areas such as weather forecasting, upland farming, resource management and the organization of daily life are viewed as concrete manifestations of adaptive capacity. In this context, folk knowledge contributes to mitigating disaster risks, enhancing resilience, and sustaining livelihoods. However, processes of social change are eroding the transmission of this knowledge. Therefore, it is essential to preserve folk knowledge and integrate it into current climate change adaptation strategies.

A little feeling about the Mong flute

(DTTG) - Between the towering mountain ranges of Ha Giang, Son La, Dien Bien, and Lao Cai provinces, as the morning mist still lingers over the cornfields, a familiar sound resonates like the breath of the earth and sky, deep, resonant and poignant. That is the sound of the Mong flute. That sound is not just music, but also the voice of the heart, the memory, the soul of an entire community living in close connection with the mountains and forests.
