Every year, the Social Charity Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at all levels has implemented a series of emergency and long-term relief programs. These activities include building thousands of charity homes and solidarity houses for the poor, helping them to have a place to live and work. Particularly during natural disasters, storms, floods or epidemics, the system of monasteries and monks has quickly become an effective relief bridge, distributing hundreds of tons of food, necessities and cash to disadvantaged areas.
In the field of healthcare, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has established and maintained hundreds of charitable clinics, especially traditional medicine clinics. The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has supported education by awarding tens of thousands of scholarships to underprivileged students across the country. Many monasteries have built and funded kindergens and charity classes, giving poor children the opportunity to access knowledge. Under the leadership of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the movement to build “Green, Clean and Beautiful Pagodas” has spread strongly. Buddhist monks and nuns have become active advocates for environmental protection, reducing plastic waste and planting trees, based on Buddhist philosophy of selflessness and harmony between humans and nature. This has fostered ecological awareness among millions of devotees, transforming pagodas into models of landscape conservation and sustainable energy use.
